The dog/cat wears the collar. As it approaches the wire a tone alerts them to their proximity to the boundary. A low level static correction is issued with advancement and the strength of the correction increases automatically if it persists in its attempts to get closer to the wire.

Determine the boundary and warning zones you need, which may include 'no-go' zones, such as flower-beds, children’s play areas, fish ponds, water features, swimming pools etc. When choosing a boundary, its good to try follow natural boundary markers since your pet will easily recognise it. Wire can be installed by laying over the ground, burried 2 - 3 inches down, fed through a hose pipe, tacked to an existing fence or through a hedge etc.
